Loving HELLA

It has been ten years since the first Hella release!!

Hold Your Horse Is was distributed via 5 Rue Christine and Frenetic Records on March 19, 2002. This recording is one of the true masterpieces in human history. Preceding HYHI was a demo, Leather Diamond, and many live performances. With the release of their debut record, Hella became established as a monumental force in recorded and live music. After a lull of almost five years, last year brought their fifteenth release, Tripper, with hopefully many more to follow.

To honor Hella's indescribably phenomenal music and to show appreciation for the incomparable people known as Spencer Seim and Zach Hill (collectively, Dan Elkan, Jonathan Hischke, Aaron Ross, Josh Hill, Carson McWhirter and Joe Meade), I have asked some fans of the band to share their thoughts. I initially requested a description of their first time hearing Hold Your Horse Is and let the respondents improvise from there. During each day this week, I will post one or two of these missives.

Death Grips remix Björk

Björk will be releasing an eight part remix series for her latest album, Biophilia. Beginning April 2, remixes by a different artist or group will be released every two weeks via One Little Indian. One of these artists is Death Grips but the date of their release is currently unknown. All parts of the series will have 12", CD, digital and limited edition deluxe versions.

Vooredoms play two shows at ATP!!

This weekend is All Tomorrow's Parties curated by Jeff Mangum which takes place at Butlins Holiday Centre in Minehead, UK. Vooredoms have been chosen to perform at the festival and they will be doing two sets over two days. They are scheduled to play at 2:45pm on March 10 and 3:00pm on March 11. This is one of the most incredible groups in history, do anything you can to witness them.

The Money Store by Death Grips

The first of two new Death Grips albums, The Money Store, will be released on CD via Epic Records on 04/24/12. A vinyl version will be available on 04/21/12.

TWO new Death Grips albums this year!!

Apparently, Death Grips have been going at it in the studio harder than I intially thought. They have come up with enough material for TWO new full length records!! Both albums will be out this year, with the first one coming in April. In interviews, it has been stated that all Death Grips music will be made available for free download on thirdworlds.net with some kind of tangible release later on.

Upcoming Releases

There are a few vague references from different sources claiming that Vooredoms (Boredoms) have been working on a new record. Considering Zach has been a member of the band since 2008, it is safe to assume that he will be on this album but that is completely unconfirmed.

Zach has a solo album coming out on Porter Records which will be released on limited edition vinyl!!!! Porter initially had this album listed as being available on CD and LP but the CD information has been removed from their catalog.

Nervous Cop has finished an EP though I'm having trouble finding any talk of it now. It was mentioned on a2b2.org a while ago but that information has since vanished.

Death Grips will be releasing their second album this year.

These four albums do not currently have official release dates.

UPDATE: On 02/07/11, Death Grips announced that they will be releasing TWO new records this year!!

FACE TAT with one bonus song!!

While looking through discogs.com, I noticed that there is an alternate release of FACE TAT!! It came out in Japan via Sleepwell Records and Daymare Recordings and there is one extra song at the end called "Fake-ID"!!!! Another difference is that the cover image is given an entirely orange hue or (more likely) it comes in an orange CD case instead of clear. I'm working on getting a copy but if anyone has one now or plans on getting one, please report on "Fake-ID" when you get a chance.

Death Grips have been working on a new LP which will be released this year.

The Bug, a project by Kevin Martin, will feature Death Grips as a guest on his upcoming LP.

Flössin - White Anaconda + The Rainbow Boa

The third release from Flössin, White Anaconda + The Rainbow Boa, is now available through overlap.org's bandcamp site. This album features the same line-up as Serpents: Zach Hill, Christopher Willits, Carson McWhirter, Matmos and Nate Boyce. Anyone familiar with this group's music knows the new album will destroy in all ways. If you don't know the might of Flössin, please get all three of their albums as soon as possible. This is one of Zach's longest running projects and each release is outstanding.

What a glorious surprise! This will be the third release from the force to be reckoned with known as Flössin. If you don't have their two incredible albums, Lead Singer and Serpents, get them NOW!!! The new album is currently untitled and will be available from overlap.org very soon.
